A brush fire in Indio torched seven cars, a golf cart and a tree this morning before county firefighters extinguished the flames.
Firefighters responded at 4:49 a.m. to reports of a possible structure fire near the 81000 block of Oleander Avenue, but instead encountered a brush fire that had spread to two to three nearby cars, said April Newman of the Riverside County Fire Department.
By 5:18 a.m., 13 county firefighters contained the fire, which caused an estimated $60,000 in damage.
The vehicles that burned were scrap and being used for parts, Newman said.
Fire crews remained on scene for about an hour after containment for cleanup.
