Salton Sea Management Workshop to be Held in Palm Desert

KMIR

Palm Desert, CA

The Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) will be hosting a community workshop over the ongoing management of the Salton Sea.  Being held on Thursday, June 30th, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the workshop will feature the most up-to-date information on management efforts.

Bruce Wilcox is the Assistant Secretary for Salton Sea Policy at the California Natural Resources Agency.  He’ll be presenting information on specific management projects that are ongoing.

Created in 2015, the Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr.’s Salton Sea Task Force was designed to develop a comprehensive management plan.  The plan would meet a short-term goal of 9,000 to 12,000 acres of habitat and dust suppression projects and set a medium-term plan to construct 18,000 to 25,000 acres of habitat and dust suppression projects.

SSMP is in charge of meeting these goals and have openly expressed their commitment to transparency throughout the projects.

The State Legislature has instructed the California Natural Resource Agency to create a realistic plan for Sea restoration in a joint effort with the Salton Sea Authority.

This workshop is among others coordinated by the agency’s Salton Sea Management Program (SSMP). This gives a time for the public to ask questions, host concerns and provide feedback on current conditions.
