Indio Announces Appointment of New Fire Chief

The Riverside County Fire Department today announced the appointment of a 30-year firefighting veteran as chief of the East Desert Division.

Jorge Rodriguez, who previously served as battalion chief and acting fire marshal for Palm Desert’s Cove Communities, as well as fire chief for the city of Menifee, will oversee fire stations in Indio, La Quinta, Thermal, Mecca, North Shore, Coachella and Blythe.

Indio has four stations, the most of any city within the East Desert division.

Indio’s city manager, Dan Martinez, praised Rodriguez’s appointment. “He brings more than three decades of leadership and experience fighting fires throughout Southern California to the city of Indio,” Martinez said.

Rodriguez began his career in 1985 as a seasonal firefighter in Lake Elsinore, where he also later worked as a fire apparatus engineer. He also worked as a full-time firefighter in Temecula and as a fire captain at Oak Glen Camp in Yucaipa.

“Having spent significant stretches of my career in the Inland Empire and the Coachella Valley, I’m very excited to return to the desert in this capacity,” he said. “I look forward to serving this growing community and maintaining optimal safety for all of our residents.”
