Palm Desert, CA

A man who allegedly robbed a Palm Desert home at gunpoint was in custody today, after deputies found the suspect riding the victim’s stolen bicycle.

Cody Riddle, 23, of Palm Desert, was arrested Sunday and charged Wednesday with robbery, criminal threats, carjacking, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of controlled substances while armed and receiving stolen property.

Riddle pleaded not guilty to all charges during a Wednesday arraignment in Indio.

He was booked at the Riverside County jail in Indio, where he was being held in lieu of $230,000 bail.

Riddle allegedly broke into a home at 8:32 a.m. Sunday in the 76000 block of California Drive, with the homeowner waking to Riddle standing inside the home with a shotgun, the sheriff’s department’s Dave Eichelt said.

Riddle then allegedly took the homeowner’s car, bicycle and other items from the home, Eichelt said. The homeowner was not injured during the robbery.

However, Riddle was spotted at 12:51 p.m. later that day in the area of San Clemente Circle and San Gorgonio Way, when residents reported a “suspicious person.” Responding deputies found Riddle allegedly riding the homeowner’s bicycle and gave chase.

According to Eichelt, Riddle fled on foot through the backyards of homes in the area.

Deputies arrested Riddle following the short foot pursuit and found a loaded shotgun and methamphetamine on him, Eichelt said. The homeowner’s car was also found nearby.

Riddle is due in an Indio courtroom on July 29 for a felony settlement conference.
