PALM SPRINGS, Ca.

A man who allegedly broke into a Palm Springs rental home today was arrested after telling police that he was the homeowner’s son and was only checking up on the property.

Danny Cater, 36, was arrested shortly after noon, when a rental company contacted police requesting a property check.

Officers responded to the home in the 1100 block of Rodeo Road and found that one of the home’s windows was smashed out.

Cater allegedly was seen walking around inside the home and opened the front door for police. He claimed to be the homeowner’s son, but officers found that Cater had active warrants for his arrest and took him into custody.

The homeowners denied knowing Cater, police said, and property taken from the home allegedly was found in Cater’s pockets.

He was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on suspicion of residential burglary and for the outstanding misdemeanor warrants.
