The Indio Police Department was called to a shooting along the 82600 block of Mountain View Avenue just before 1:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
"When we arrived we found a 22-year-old male with a gunshot wound, he was transported to a local hospital where unfortunately he passed away of his injuries," says Indio Police Commander Henk Peeters adding that two other victims later showed up at different hospitals for treatment.
"Both also with gunshot, one of them serious, one of them minor," says Peters.
Peeters says they arrested the victim with minor injures, 28-year-old Angel Lopez, when he was discharged from the hospital, "He was booked into the county jail for violation of probation and possession of firearm being a felon and ammunition."
Peeters says they’re not sure what role Lopez played in the shooting and are not ruling other people being involved, "We believe it was a confrontation there that occurred on Mountain View Avenue between two parties, we’re still very early in the investigation, detectives are still working up leads to find out what happened."
People who live in the neighborhood refused to speak about what they saw and heard on Sunday, most say they’re afraid to get involved. The victim’s mother says her son leaves behind a two-year-old child.
"A tragic, tragic thing to have to such a young life … and we’re doing whatever we can to help her and help this victim bring the suspect to justice," says Peeters.
