Man Arrested After Attempt to Hide Firearm

PALM SPRINGS, Ca.

Palm Springs Police arrested Melvin Thomas after police found a handgun they believe he hid under the bumper of a car.

Moments before, Thomas’s two female friends flagged down police in regards to their vehicle burglarized while at Copa Night Club Wednesday just after 2:00am. 

As the officers investigated the vehicle burglary, a vehicle parked a few spaces away from the victims’ vehicle began backing up when the gun dropped from the front bumper, drawing the attention of the officers. 

Police detained all parties and vehicles at the scene and soon learned that Thomas was the one in possession of the gun and sought to hide it from officers.

Thomas was arrested for weapons violations, PRCS violations, and misdemeanor warrants. Thomas is currently on PRCS Probation for felon in possession of a firearm and was booked into the Smith Correctional Facility.
