PALM SPRINGS, Ca.
It’s been years in the making and now a new national retailer has opened in the new redevelopment project in Downtown Palm Springs.
West Elm is now open. Store management was joined by the Chamber of Commerce, Palm Springs Mayor Rob Moon as well as members of the city council for a ribbon cutting Wednesday evening. That event was followed by a VIP party to unveil the new store before its official opening.
The store opened to the public Thursday morning at 10am.
West Elm spokesman Andres Ortega says they think West Elm is a perfect fit in Palm Springs.
"We are thrilled to be here in Palm Springs. It’s the birthplace of modernism and I think our aesthetic really fits in nicely with architecture and design and the appreciation and love for that era. We specialize in affordable modern furnishings that includes everything from sofas and coffee tables to decorative accessories and bedding. We like to mix that with hand-crafted pieces, you’ll find some from the Philippines, Haiti and other global artisans in our collection so you get a really nice eclectic look in your home."
The store is the first business to open in the new Wessman-Developed project in Downtown Palm Springs. The building will house other retail on the ground floor along with offices on the second floor and loft apartments on top.
