Jason Hershey has been looking for work for about six years and needed to up his job hunting game, so he along with dozens of valley residents took advantage of free workshops put on by the Riverside County Workforce Development Center in Indio.
"This workshop is amazing, you know you learn so many different many skills, how to dress, how to do interviews, you know the correct way and I just think it’s just an opportunity you know to get a job," says Hershey.
Speakers took turns giving job seekers advice on how to improve a resume, dressing for success and how to ace an interview. This way when candidates show up at the Valleywide Employment Expo, they have a much better chance of getting hired.
"This year we actually made sure that every employer that’s going to be participating has positions available and open ready to hire so this is the biggest opportunity job seekers are going to have," says Lino Verdel, a job coach with the Workforce Development Center in Indio.
"Just amazing I mean to be able to go to a place where they’re all there and get your resume and information .. you know to be able to put that first thought you know I’m the guy for you," says Hershey.
Verdel says having the right attitude is key to landing the job and being prepared helps with confidence, "Nobody can teach you attitude, nobody can teach you the confidence level that you should have when you’re providing services to a customer and again that comes from within so that confidence level is going to be the selling point of every job seeker to the employer."
"And that’s why I’m here today to earn more confidence cause I’m sure I can get a job just getting there and showing up," says Hershey.
The job fair will be held September 15, 2016 at the Riverside County Fairgrounds in Indio from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
