Friday Night Lights: High School Football Scores (09/09/16)

Martín Di Felice

It’s only the third week of action for most of our local teams, but some of tonight’s game had playoff implications thanks to the brand new postseason format. And while some seasons have begun exactly as coaches and players would hope, other teams were looking for tonight to turn things around.

Rancho Mirage 21 at La Quinta 28: While the Rattlers lost the game, it’s clear both of these teams are playoff bound and are poised to make a deep run. While each team made mistakes the coaches will be pointing to come film study (LQ with red zone fumbles, RM with silly penalties) BOTH teams played with physical tenacity each coach can enjoy watching on film. Look out for the Blackhawks and Rattlers to be playing past Thanksgiving.

Heritage 45 at Cathedral City 13: The Lions are still waiting for their team to get healthy and still waiting for the first win of the season. They’ve scheduled tough non-league teams in hopes of getting ready for league play and competing for a DVL title.

Tahquitz 21 at Shadow Hills 41: The Knights, led by Lee Hawkins on offense and Kaleb Welmas on defense are picking up their stride. We knew they’d be making changes on both sides of the ball and looking to make noise moving into the DVL. Well, they’re doing just that.

Xavier Prep 34 at 29 Palms 27: After scoring 2 points in their season opener, the Saints have kept the scoreboard buzzing putting up 34 points in each of their last 2 contests.

Palm Springs 7 at Murrieta Mesa 48: The Indians are struggling to find any of the magic they enjoyed the past few year. This loss drops them to 0-3 as they suffer the worst start since 2007.

Palm Desert 0 at Yucaipa 56: After putting up 47 points last week against Coachella Valley, the Aztecs are shut out of the game against Yucaipa.

Indio 6 at Yucca 45: The Rajahs won their opener handily, but have struggled offensively since. Yucca scored early and often in this route.

Coachella Valley 28 at Central 10: The Arabs keep rolling. Led by running back Romeo Martinez and quarterback Armando Deniz, this team has a dual attack that boasts the only unbeaten squad in the valley.

Desert Mirage 0 at Holtville 51: The Rams are still looking for their first points of the season.

DHSHS 14 at Banning 31: Despite 2 rushing touchdowns from Bailey Carter, the Golden Eagles fall to 0-3 on the season.
