Hiker Rescued In Local Mountains

Several Riverside County agencies helped rescue a stranded hiker in Painted Canyon northeast of Mecca. The California Highway Patrol called in one of its helicopters to airlift the hiker to solid ground at Painted Canyon and Box Canyon roads. That’s where an emergency crew was waiting to treat the 17-year-old hiker who was suffering from dehydration. Two adult hikers with the minor were not injured.
