A La Quinta man was killed when he was struck by two cars while walking along eastbound Interstate 10 in Indio, the California Highway Patrol reported Monday.

CHP Officer Mike Radford said Ramon Gomez was walking in a southerly direction when he was struck by a 1999 Chevrolet Astro driven by 42-year-old Ramon Pineda of Tucson, Arizona, just after 3 a.m. Sunday.

After being struck by the Chevrolet just east of Golf Center Parkway, Gomez was hit by a 1999 Porsche Boxter driven by 32-year-old Leo Diaz of Gladstone, Oregon, Radford said.

Gomez, 24, died at the scene. No one in the vehicles was injured in the crash.

Radford said the CHP was investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, and that alcohol and/or drugs may have been factors.

Anyone with information on the crash was asked to contact the CHP Indio office at (760) 772-8911 and ask for Officer Severing.
