Eisenhower Medical Center will hold free allergy screenings Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Participants between ages 4 to 20 can undergo skin testing for 15 pollens common to the Coachella Valley.
Test results will be available about 20 minutes following the test.
Participants must not be taking beta blockers, according to hospital officials.
“The fact is these conditions can be controlled and should not negatively affect any adult’s or child’s quality of life,” said Dr. David J. Waldman, Eisenhower’s section chief of allergy. “We can find ways to treat the disease without having to rely forever on medications. The first step is to identify the root cause of the problem.”
Dr. Waldman will administer the screenings and also be available to speak with parents regarding seasonal allergies and how best to control them.
“Parents are encouraged to bring their children age four and older as studies show nearly 20 percent of school-age children have allergies. Not only is a child’s school attendance affected, but the child may also become affected socially, athletically and academically,” Waldman said.
