Research shows that continuing education later in life keeps the mind sharp and a person happy, with that in mind, the mission of Osher Institute at Cal State University San Bernardino Palm Desert Campus is to create lifelong learners.
"There’s a huge opportunity to impact quality of life and really add a new element to life here in the valley for people 50 and over for those who really want an intellectual challenge," says Director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, Sue Anderson.
No college degree required to become an OLLI member, just curiosity.
"This is a very welcoming friendly place for people to come and explore topics that they may have had an interest in and just never the right opportunity or something they want to learn at a deeper level," says Anderson.
With the membership fee of $50 a year you get access to low cost college level courses, events and education based travel but members say you get a lot more than that.
"Everyday you come to class you learn something and it just broadens your horizons even more," says OLLI instructor and member Dennis Gilmore.
And learning at OLLI is stress free.
"There’s no homework, there’s no testing, there’s no grades … when you think about learning just for the sheer love of learning, it gives you a different perspective," says Gilmore.
As Henry Ford once said, "Anyone who keeps learning stays young."
"It’s never tool late to start learning," says Anderson.
The program is enrolling now and you can try a week of free courses in October before you commit.
