A 19-year-old Florida man was fatally injured when his motorcycle crashed through a freeway fence and he was thrown onto an adjacent roadway in Cabazon, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The motorcyclist, who was from Sunrise, Florida, died at the scene of the Sunday pre-dawn crash. His name was withheld pending family notification.
The bike went through a fence off the right shoulder of eastbound Interstate 10 in Cabazon at 12:52 a.m. According to CHP Officer Darren Meyer, the motorcyclist was in the right lane, traveling at high speed just past the Main Street overpass, when he failed to negotiate a curve in the freeway.
The bike veered down an embankment, through the freeway perimeter fence and onto Railroad Avenue, which runs parallel to I-10. He was ejected from the bike and died of his injuries about 1:30 a.m.
The crash was under investigation, and whether alcohol and drugs were contributing factors would be part of the probe, Meyer said.
