Chiriaco Summit, CA
A Guatemalan man killed when his pickup truck was hit by a big rig in Chiriaco Summit pinning him and his vehicle beneath it was identified.
Sergio Ramirez-Morales, 47, of Villa Nueva, Guatemala, was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet S-10 struck just after 4 a.m. Thursday on eastbound I-10, west of Hayfield Road, authorities said.
Emergency responders found Ramirez-Morales trapped in the pickup.
The tractor-trailer was in the left lane and moved to the right lane and struck the pickup. The impact sent both vehicles to the right shoulder and the Chevrolet flipped onto its roof and came to rest underneath the big rig.
Ramirez-Morales was pronounced dead at the scene. The trucker, 31-year- old Fabian Padilla of Armona, was injured, CHP Officer Mike Radford said, but a condition report was not available.
Radford said alcohol and drugs did not appear to be factors.
