PALM SPRINGS, Ca.

A vehicle crashed into a water line Tuesday in Palm Springs, severing it and injuring both the car’s driver and passenger, with police suspecting alcohol as a factor in the crash.

The crash has also left the Riviera Hotel without water, and has forced them to book all their guests into other nearby hotels until the problem can be repaired.  There is no word from Desert Water Agency how long it will be before those repairs can be completed and water restored to the hotel.

The accident was reported at 2:04 a.m. on North Indian Canyon Drive, just north of Vista Chino, according to Palm Springs police Sgt. Kelly Fieux.

A black Honda Civic crashed into the water main, causing significant water damage and erosion under the sidewalk and the right lane of North Indian Canyon Drive, Fieux said.

The driver and passenger suffered serious injuries but were both responsive, according to the sergeant. They were cut out of the Honda by members of the Palm Springs Fire Department before being taken to a hospital.

The crash remained under investigation, but Fieux said alcohol was suspected as a factor in the crash.
