Former USC Trojan Joe McKnight was shot and killed Thursday in Louisiana in an apparent road rage incident. He was 28-years-old.
According to Jefferson Parish Police, the former Trojan running back and another driver, 54-year old Ronald Gasser were in an argument outside their vehicles when Gasser shot and killed McKnight.
Witnesses tell police Gasser then stood over McKnight’s body saying, "I told you not to **** with me."
Responding officers performed CPR on McKnight but couldn’t revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff says they are still interviewing witnesses and the gunman — Gasser, who waited for police to arrive– is in custody.
Trojans fans remember McKnight as an exciting player with game breaking speed and slippery moves.
In 2010 he was drafted in the 4th round by the New York Jets, spent 3 years with the team, and another couple games with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2014 before heading to the Canadian Football League.
Former players and coaches reacted to the news of McKnight’s death on social media.
