SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – Sheriff’s officials in Northern California have arrested a man suspected of shooting at a deputy following a traffic stop.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department says homicide detectives took 34-year-old Jimmy Young Vang, of Sacramento, into custody on Thursday night after a chase during which Vang attempted to carjack a driver.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Tony Turnbull says Vang opened fire on a deputy earlier in the day after getting out on the passenger’s side of a vehicle the deputy had pulled over in Sacramento. Bullets struck the deputy’s patrol car, and the deputy returned fire.
Turnbull says Vang got back in the car before fleeing on foot. The driver then led police on a high-speed chase at speeds of over 100 miles per hour.
The driver was detained but hasn’t been arrested. It was not clear whether Vang had an attorney.
