Desert Hot Springs, CA
A murder charge was filed today against a man accused in the beating death of his 64-year-old father in the victim’s Desert Hot Springs home.
Arraignment is scheduled next Wednesday for Jose Angel Velasco, 36, who is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
Deputies responding to a “suspicious circumstance call” about 10:45 p.m. Aug. 3 in the 16-200 block of Via Corto West found Jose Luis Velasco dead inside his home “with obvious signs of trauma,” said sheriff’s Sgt. Walter Mendez.
The victim’s son, who had been living with his father, was arrested without incident around 8 p.m. last Saturday in the area of Sixth Street and Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. No other suspects are being sought, according to sheriff’s investigators, who did not disclose a motive for the crime.
